Lutheran General Hospital
The Lutheran General Hospital complex projects consisted of renovation of the following components:
- Exterior façade restoration of the Lutheran General Hospital Building
- Exterior façade restoration of the Parkside Medical Center Building
- Renovation of Olson Plaza
- Renovation of hospital entrance Courtyards
The restoration of the exterior façade repairs comprised of repair and replacement of corroded steel lintels, rebuilding of the corners, replacement of cracked and deteriorated brick masonry, the addition of epoxy grouted masonry ties, tuck-pointing of deteriorated mortar joints, caulking of selected windows and installation of temporary sidewalk protection/bridge. At Olson Plaza and at the Courtyards, the work consisted of removing deteriorated concrete and membrane, installing new waterproofing membrane and new stamped concrete and terrazzo paving. Work also included new ornamental perimeter railing and plaza lighting. O&S Associates performed a survey of the building exterior using swing-stages and developed a repair program for the façades of all buildings. O&S prepared repair drawings and technical specifications, bid the work to specialty contractors, and made periodic observations of construction. The total cost of the façade repair work was about $6 million. Parkside and plaza work were completed in 2004. Lutheran General work is a multiyear project, to be completed in 2006.
