Carnegie Museums Parking Garage
Pittsburgh, PA
The Carnegie Museums Parking Garage required an engineering inspection of the structural and waterproofing system of the parking garage.
- O&S discovered failure of the waterproofing systems, namely failed joint sealant that has allowed for water seepage through the slab joints causing failure of embedded steel slab connections.
- Failure of waterproofing in landscaping planters has led to saturation to the concrete below, causing freeze-thaw and corrosion damage to the girders, columns, and floor slabs below. Efflorescence had developed in some locations.
- Metal support pans for the stairs had corroded significantly in certain locations and were becoming structurally unsound. Corrosion to these pans was causing the concrete tread to crack and spall.
- Limited budgets required the development and implementation of annually phased repair programs.
