The Alexandria DASH Facility is a 147,000-square foot facility that services and maintains the city’s DASH buses on the ground level with an elevated parking deck on the second level above the maintenance space. The parking deck provides a total of 260 car parking spaces and 11 motorcycle spaces. The main traffic flow of the parking level is two-way traffic with 90-degree parking. Access is provided via a speed ramp on the East end of the building. The garage level is approximately 612 feet long by 178 feet wide. The structural system is precast, pre-stressed concrete double tees and wall panels. The architecture includes painted precast structural wall panels. The building was constructed in 2009. City of Alexandria selected O&S to address deficiencies such as observed leaks at the expansion joints, cracked, scaling, and spalling at the concrete topping slab, ADA signage, striping, and access compliance, and icing of the speed ramp entrance.
O&S developed a basic restoration program based on the City’s requirements. This basic restoration program addresses the leaking at the perimeter of the parking deck, deicing of the speed ramp, and ADA compliance upgrades. Based on our findings O&S recommended a more intensive restoration program that will completely replace the concrete topping slab, insulation, and waterproofing membrane of the entire parking deck. This will provide a long-term solution and increased durability to the parking deck and bus facility below.
