This 5-story, 2-bay, 500-space parking garage serves as parking for the Alexandria City Police Department vehicles. The ramping system is a single-helix arrangement in both bays utilizing two-way traffic and 90-degree parking. The structural system is precast, prestressed concrete to provide quick erection, utilizing off-site system production. The architecture includes architectural wall panels with brick, reveal elements, and decorative metal grilles. The City of Alexandria reached out directly to O&S after reviewing a condition assessment report completed for the Alexandria City DASH Facility.
O&S was requested to complete a condition assessment and to develop a repair program for spalling at the column covers on the North elevation of the structure. The spalling was concentrated around the precast column cover tieback connections at double columns. O&S performed a condition assessment of the precast column covers and determined that the most likely cause to be expansion and contraction cycles of the structure. All precast tieback connections of the façade column covers were demolished and replaced with a new connection to allow movement at the column joints. The City was concerned with the aesthetics of the repairs. O&S worked with the City to develop repairs that would blend as much as possible with the existing Architecture.
