This 6-story, 2-bay, 700-space parking garage was developed as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) redevelopment plan along Technology Drive in the Pittsburgh Technology Center. The ramping system is a double threaded helix arrangement utilizing one-way traffic and 70-degree parking. The building includes a fullcoverage solar panel array over the top roof level. The structural system is precast, prestressed concrete to provide quick erection utilizing offsite system production. The architecture includes precast spandrel panels, curtain wall glazing, and perforated metal screen elements. The solar panel array has been designed to provide more than 90% of the building’s power requirements. The project is substantially complete and currently submitting documentation for Parksmart Silver certification.
O&S provided structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing design services for this project. Structural responsibilities included code review, lateral load analysis, vertical load analysis, foundation design (drilled caisson), foundation retaining wall design, and diaphragm design. MEP responsibilities included code review, HVAC and air circulation systems design, power system design and layout, lighting design and layout, security equipment specification and layout, solar panel array analysis, design and layout, storm drain piping design, and fire protection system design.
