Hackensack Parking Structure Ordinance 21-2011

In 2011, the City of Hackensack adopted Ordinance No. 21-2011 for the mandatory inspection of parking garages by a professional engineer every five (5) years, effective 2011, to identify any unsafe conditions and to submit a signed and sealed evaluation report.
This ordinance applies to:
Commercial or multi-family residential properties
Attached or unattached to the property
Open or enclosed
Below grade or above grade
Detached wood-framed garages are excluded from this ordinance
ESCROW & FEES:
An initial escrow fee in the amount of $5,000 must accompany the required report regardless of the number of parking spaces. When the reviewing authority deems necessary, additional funds may be required to cover the cost of their services until the repair and/or maintenance is completed with any unused funds being refunded.
Evaluation Report:
The evaluation report must state any and all identified repairs required, anticipated maintenance, and structural integrity to keep the garage safe along with a completion schedule for any and all repairs and anticipated maintenance.
All repairs requiring a permit should be obtained through the Building Department.
